Art In The Open Air -

Be inspired by the wilderness…

Another one of those artists in the woods…

Hi! My name is Sarah Adams. I live in the Pacific Northwest.

My desire for this website is to

  1. share the joy of creating with others through local art events.

Many of us have forgotten the art of play. Local crafting and art events are an excellent place to leave the planning and materials to someone else and come for the fun!

  2. Learn new techniques and inspire others to be bold and try them,

  3. bring awareness to my artwork.

My background is in Costume Design, Sewing and Pattern drafting. I have taught sewing and dance classes. I love watercolor, and oil painting, and other arts and while the design work has been my focus for many years, art has been integral to that development work. Rendering designs in mediums ranging from markers to oil pastels has kept me connected to art throughout my life.

I graduated with a Find and Performing Arts degree in 2007 just proceeding the Great Recession and so, I also have 12 years of math teaching experience and a Master of Arts in Mathematics. Despite my left brain development, I am an artistic spirit and regularly find myself blending the arts and math together. My art and design work will regularly bleed into math and vice versa - this is where I am truly happy.

I have worked as an independent costume designer, seamstress, and artist since high school and designed products for MyRadDog, (now available on Amazon from Nite Ize). I won the National Technical Costume Award at the Kennedy Center in 2007 (an award not normally given to costume designers) and have been creating patterns, art, logos, and making things for many years.

I live in the woods at the top of a hill with my husband and golden retriever. Together with my husband, we have flipped four houses and we are presently building a home together. My weekends are usually filled with forestry stewardship, construction, hikes, gardening, and art. For this reason, the website name is important because it brings to mind a melding of both the outdoors and creating art.

Best,

Sarah
